Financial AidFellowships & ScholarshipsUp to five full tuition fellowship awards are given each year. The Graduate School of Art Fellowship Awards recognize and reward exceptional talent and artistic/academic performance. All students accepted for admission are automatically considered. No specific application is required. The Henrietta Wahlert Scholarship for Painters and Sculptors and the Eliza McMillan Scholarship for Women are available without separate application. The Danforth Scholarship is awarded based on nominations from Art alumni. Other partial tuition remission art scholarships are available automatically upon acceptance. All scholarships are renewable for the second year. Applicants for the Mr. and Mrs. Spencer T. Olin Fellowships for Women and the Chancellor's Graduate Fellowships must submit a separate application to the M.F.A. program. Both provide full tuition and a stipend. Our recommendation is to include duplicates of all of your Graduate School of Art application materials. The Mr. and Mrs. Spencer T. Olin Fellowships for Women is a joint enterprise of the Monticello College Foundation and Washington University providing Fellowships for women for graduate study in a number of fields, including art. For assistantships with special responsibilities, the stipends are greater. Assistantships may be funded through the Federal Work Study Program. All applicants to the MFA program are automatically considered for these awards, which are renewable. Teaching OpportunitiesTeacher of Record opportunities exist for semester and summer courses. Selections are based on artistic merit, maturity in the classroom setting and availability. Education LoansStudents may be eligible for Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans up to the maximum amount determined by the U. S. Government (presently $8,500) as well as Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans and Perkins National Direct Student Loan (NDSL) funds. Upon application to the MFA program, the applicant will receive a "Washington University Graduate Student Family Financial Profile (FFP)" and a U. S. Department of Education "Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)" to determine eligibility for loans. GradPLUS LoansA GradPLUS loan is a government guaranteed alternative loan that provides funds up to the Cost of Attendance for Graduate and Professional students. This loan is not based on need and carries a fixed interest rate of 8.5%. You should exhaust all Federal Stafford loan eligibility before applying for a GradPLUS loan.
