The College of Art advising system is divided between Core and Major levels. First-year students are advised by Georgia Binnington, Associate Dean of Students. Second-year students will have a faculty advisor. When you enter a major, you will be reassigned to an advisor who teaches in your major. Graduate students are advised by their faculty mentor.

Students are scheduled for two formal advising sessions each year. One in October/November to plan for the following spring semester and one in March/April to plan for the following fall. Students are encouraged to see their advisor for informal advising at anytime during the year.

In order to register online via the internet at WebSTAC , students must have met with, and been approved to register by, their advisor. Students must also know their student ID number and PIN number. Students will not be allowed to register if they have a “HOLD” on their record.

College of Art majors and non-art students pursuing an art minor will have priority enrollment in art courses. Non-art students may enroll in any art courses that are not restricted to art majors only if there is room in the course and all prerequisites are met. If a student registers for a course without meeting the prerequisites, they may be administratively dropped after completing registration. Any student dropped from a course will be notified by the College of Art.

Washington University employees and other students choosing to take courses without applying to the degree program may be admitted to the College of Art as a “Student Not Candidate for Degree (SNCD)”. All course prerequisites must be met and tuition is charged at the regular day school per credit rate. Those wishing to apply for admission as a non-degree student should contact Cris Baldwin, Assistant Dean & Registrar, at 314-935-4761.
