Kemper Art Museum installs Kolding piece at Skinker stop

Posted by October 14, 2014

David Smith (above), an art preparator at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, installs How to Build a Universe That Falls Apart Two Days Later (2014) by Danish artist Jakob Kolding in the southwest entrance of the Skinker MetroLink station, near the corner of Skinker Boulevard and Forest Park Parkway.

The piece, which explores the gaps between how architectural spaces are planned and how they're actually used, consists of protest-style posters, pasted to the wall in variable configurations. Kolding's posters are installed concurrently in the exhibition Encountering the City: The Urban Experience in Contemporary Art, on view at the Museum through January 4, 2015.

Kolding will come to campus to deliver an artist talk about his work, which revolves around the experience of life in the contemporary built environment, on December 1.
